  • The average income was $17,710 while the average home cost $76,400.

  • Gas cost $1.25 per gallon.

  • 1981 was the year for the assassination attempt on President Reagan and the first woman was appointed to the Supreme Court.

  • PCs (personal computers) were introduced by IBM.

  • In 1982, E. T. and Michael Jackson's Thriller were released.

  • 1983 marks Sally Ride's space mission making her the first woman in space.

  • In 1985, Coke introduced the very unpopular New Coke, and the wreck of the Titanic was found.

  • The Challenger Space Shuttle exploded in 1986.

  • The Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Also that year, the Exxon Valdez spill occurred.
