graduation

Marion High School has announced its plans for its Class of 2021 graduation ceremony, to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Patriot Stadium.

Because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, precautions will be taken to protect the health and safety of students and guests. All attendees will be required to wear face masks. Capacity will be limited, with each graduate receiving 6 tickets for family and friends. Guests will be asked to practice social distancing when selecting seats. Masks will be distributed to those who do not have them.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for the following day, Friday, May 28, also at the football stadium.

“We are excited to be able to celebrate the Class of 2021,” said Marion High School Principal Paul Johnston. “They’ve worked so hard through an unprecedented school year, and I am happy that we will be able to give them the public recognition they deserve. Last year, we had to move graduation to July, and we couldn’t allow any public attendance. This should be something much closer to ‘normal.’”

For those unable to attend the event, the ceremony will also be live-streamed at marionpatriots.com and through the Marion Patriots Mascot Media app.

Approximately 310 graduates will make up the Class of 2021. The graduation ceremony will include an opening speech by the class president; remarks from Dr. Glen Fenter, superintendent; and the presentation of diplomas by principal Paul Johnston and members of the Marion School District Board of Directors.

With a growing enrollment of nearly 3,900 students, the Marion School District is committed to helping students develop the academic, social, and decision-making skills needed to become productive citizens in the rapidly changing technological world.
