The contest to fill an open seat on the Marion School Board will head to a runoff in November after the top two candidates finished in a tie in Tuesday’s primary election.

Unofficial voting totals are as follows:

  • Leslie Pace – 89 (41.2%)

  • Dr. Tomeka Small Singleton – 89 (41.2%)

  • Tameka Tolbert – 38 (17.6%)

Pace and Singleton will square off in the Nov. 3 election.

With no winner yet declared in the election, incumbent Gary Wehrum will remain in place on the board through November.

Additionally, there will also be a need for one of the four candidates elected this year to agree to serve a 4-year term instead of a 6-year term. If no agreement is reached, a drawing will be held to determine who that person will be. The four elected this year are the Rev. Jeffrey Richardson, Daryel Jackson, Jerri Crase (all re-elected without opposition), and the winner of the November runoff.
