The Marion School District will not offer a virtual instruction program for grades K-12 for the 2021-22 academic year. Marion School Board members voted 7-0 Thursday, May 20, to approve a recommendation from Superintendent Glen Fenter to end its current version of virtual programming at the conclusion of the current school year.
“We have learned many things during the past year,” Fenter said, “and one of the most important lessons is that a virtual-based educational model does not work well for the majority of our students. We are committed to providing the most-effective learning environment possible, and we know that our students learn best when they are physically present in a classroom, with a dedicated, talented teacher leading the effort.”

According to state guidelines, special education records must be destroyed six years after a student is dismissed, graduated, found ineligible, or if the records are no longer useful in making educational decisions. Under these guidelines, special education records of Marion School District students who graduated, transferred to a different district, had their services end during the 2014-15 school year will be shredded beginning June 4, 2021. Parents have the right to review and request copies of these records before they are destroyed. Students also have the right to review/copy records if they are 18 years or older. Any parent or former student who would like to review and/or pick up their special education records should contact the Marion Special Education office at 870-739-5100 before June 4, 2021. Please note: These records are not the student’s permanent records – they are only special education due process forms and records.

"When we look back at the heroes of this tumultuous time, it is clear that teachers will be among those we honor as our society's most valuable players. ..."
Special thanks to U.S. Senator John Boozman for the speech he made last week in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week! The speech was entered into the Congressional Record, and is pictured below.
