Banned Books Week (September 22-28, 2019) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship. Dear Friends, After watching the latest PATCAST, I came away humbled. I don’t take for granted the people who trusted Fred Leonard and I enough to buy-in what all the Hometown Showdown entails. At the center of this trust is the belief that we are put on God’s green Earth to make a difference. What have we done for the least of these? I ask this question, knowing that I’m cloaked in human frailty. I’m not perfect. We all aren’t. However, there comes these rare moments when you know that what you are doing is right. The fact that we all are working together to make a difference in the lives of those who are going through battles that we cannot imagine. We can certainly answer the question above. Students The PSAT/NMSQT will be given on the campus of Marion High School on October 16, 2019 at 8:00 am. You will be excused from classes on campus and at ASU-MS during the morning. Celebrating in Mrs. Ledezma's class Students getting ready for the 16 de sepiembre festivities last Friday. Students in Spanish class learned the history of Mexico's Independence Day and made papel picado flags on Friday. Today they are enjoying the festive day by sampling traditional street snack Chicharrones con salsa Valentina a traditional street snack in Mexico and listening to Mariachi music!
